A B-52 bomber lifts off for yet another mission. The old giant keeps on "ticking" with new updates and innovations. The 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron presented some of those innovations at the international "Bold Quest" exercise in September. Some of the updates were in digital communication from ground units to the aircrews in an effort to prevent friendly fire incidents.

49th TES show off "bold" new B-52 enhancements at demonstration

BARKSDALE AFB, La. -- A 53d Wing geographically separated unit participated in an international demonstration in California and Nevada to reduce friendly fire incidents and enhance combat effectiveness Sept. 10-15.

The 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron members with their B-52 went out west equipped with several new devices and technology for the Bold Quest demonstration.

This new technology included four aspects: a LITENING precision targeting pod system, electronic communication, software identification training and the first Avionics Midlife Improvements upgrade.
