49th TES helps advance, protect B-52 technology Published Jan. 17, 2008 Barksdale Warrior EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Members of the 53d Wing recently tested a Defensive Suite Software Upgrade, or DSSU on the B-52 last week. The 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron from Barksdale Air Force Base, Fla., brought a B-52 to Eglin for the test. The new software upgrades the existing defensive systems to combat new and improved threats. The 36th Electronic Warfare Squadron designed, planned and analyzed the test results. Two electronic countermeasures experts from Eglin also made modifications on the aircraft. The 49th TES is the last unit to test the software to before being fielded to operational units. The upgrade is scheduled for February.
